Featured HPI Build: Flatbed 595
This truck was given a super single conversion before arriving to us allowing for better maneuverability and making room for massive 41” Continental MPT tires. To ensure fitment of these tires the deck was designed with a flair for added clearance. The over-cab rack has a tire mount and was built large enough to carry a full-size spare.
As a hunter this customer wanted the ability to pull a downed animal such as an elk onto the deck using a Warn winch mounted to the top of the headboard. To support the use of this winch we welded in large gussets tying the headboard to the deck. Integrated into the gussets are large drop door top boxes with heat shrunk chains to hold doors flat when open and welded on baskets to provide storage on top. In between the top boxes are two diesel fuel tanks at 62 and 38 gallons. For early mornings and late nights two 1900 lumen LED lights were added to the headboard and wired to an upfitter switch in the truck.
Front and rear underbody drop door boxes were designed with angled bottoms to add to the overall look of this truck. The front boxes were given tool drawers to add organization below the deck. Every box on this truck has LED lighting that come on when doors open utilizing pressure switches. On the drivers side a clam shell style top box was added with a tapered lid providing easy to reach storage for longer items that otherwise would not fit in a box. The height of this top box is then matched by removable bed rails that wrap the remainder of the deck.
As this truck would certainly be in some sticky situations the rear tail apron was designed to have another Warn winch mounted. This truck also was designed to still function with the owner’s gooseneck and bumper pull trailers and included hitches for both. To finish off the aesthetics this custom flatbed was designed utilizing Highway Products unique Gladiator technique (dimpled material) and then completely covered in Line-X. The thickness of the bedliner required every surface to be redesigned to ensure doors closed and tolerances were met.
